Google''s Pixel 11 Line Arrives With a $100 Price Bump
Google showed off its 2026 hardware on Wednesday, and the headline isn''t a feature. It''s the price. Every phone in the Pixel 11 range costs $100 more than the Pixel 10 it replaces. The Pixel Watch 5 is up $50. The only cheap thing Google announced all night was a $30 Bluetooth tracker.
The lineup runs Pixel 11 at $899, Pixel 11 Pro at $1,099, Pixel 11 Pro XL at $1,299 and Pixel 11 Pro Fold at $1,899. Pre-orders opened the same day, and shipping starts August 20.
What the extra money buys
Google did soften the blow in one place. The Pixel 11 and 11 Pro now start at 256GB — double last year''s base storage. Then it took something back: the Pro and Pro XL now start with 12GB of RAM instead of 16GB, which is what the last two generations shipped with. You can still get 16GB. You''ll pay for it.
The internals are where the actual update lives. All four phones run the Tensor G6, which Google says is up to 20 percent more power efficient, 25 percent faster at browsing and 15 percent faster at loading apps than the G5. On-device Gemini Nano, in Google''s words, "runs with higher quality and lower latency." In practice that mostly means live translation keeps up better.
The cameras got the same kind of attention: a reworked image signal processor, tensor units Google claims are 50 percent more capable, and a low-light mode called Instant Night Sight that fires up to 4.5 times faster. Pro models now reach 120x Pro Zoom, up from 100x. The regular Pixel 11 and the Pro Fold go from 20x to 30x.
Outside the chip, though, not much moved. The Pixel 11''s 6.3-inch OLED is basically the Pixel 10 panel. The 48MP main sensor is physically bigger with a slightly wider field of view. The battery grew by all of 15mAh — and Google still claims six extra hours, which it credits to smarter power management rather than a bigger cell.
The one new piece of hardware
The Pro models get HiLight, a ring of LEDs around the rear flash. Google teased it a couple of weeks back without saying what it did, and the answer turns out to be notification triage. When your phone is face down, the ring lights up for exactly two things: when Gemini is listening, thinking or answering, and when a favourite contact calls — WhatsApp included.
Small idea, and Google isn''t the first to try it. But the premise holds up. Most of us flip the phone over to stop being interrupted, then pick it up anyway to find out whether the interruption was worth it.
A watch, a tracker, and the feature that deserved more stage time
The Pixel Watch 5 starts at $399, with a $579 Steph Curry edition for anyone who wants one. The chip is 20 percent quicker, storage doubles to 64GB, and the 45mm model claims up to 40 hours. Health tracking now stretches into blood pressure patterns and insulin resistance measured over time, plus sleep breathing quality and a new Readiness Score.
The Pixel Tag is Google''s first own-brand Bluetooth tracker at $30. It hooks into Android''s Find Hub, adds ultra-wideband for precision finding, and runs about a year on a coin cell.
The most genuinely useful thing announced barely got a moment. Pixel 11 phones can now translate sign language into text through the camera, using a DeepMind model wired into Gboard and Live Transcribe. It launches with American Sign Language to English, with more languages and devices promised later. If it works as well outside a demo as it does inside one, that''s a bigger deal than any zoom figure.
Why it matters
Component costs are climbing across the whole industry, and Google is passing them straight through — in the same season Samsung already did. What you get back is mostly software: an agent that can order groceries, book a ride or phone a business for you, with a live transcript you can step into. That one is US-only for now.
Whether $100 more is worth an incremental camera and a better assistant comes down to how the agent behaves when nobody''s rehearsed the demo. Apple goes next in September, facing the same costs and the same question.
