Privacy Policy

The Daily Edit is a small publication, and this is a plain-language account of the little data we handle. The short version: we store an email address if you give us one, we run analytics only if you say yes to them, we run no advertising trackers at all, and we never sell anything about you.
Who we are
The Daily Edit publishes technology and lifestyle journalism at thedailyedit.net. For anything in this policy — questions, requests, complaints — write to hello@thedailyedit.net.
Information we collect
We collect exactly two kinds of information, both given to us directly. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store the email address you enter and which page you subscribed from. If you write to us through the contact form, we store your name, email address, chosen topic, and the message itself, so we can read and answer it.
There are no user accounts on this site. We don’t buy data about you from anyone, and we collect nothing in the background beyond the standard technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) that our hosting providers keep to run and secure the service.
How we use it
Subscriber emails are used for one thing: sending the brief. Contact messages are used to read and respond to what you sent. We build no individual profiles, we run no targeted advertising, and we do not sell, rent, or trade your information.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand what people read — which pages are opened, roughly where readers are, and what kind of device they use. It gives us aggregate reading patterns, not individual profiles, and we run no ads and sell nothing, so that is all it is used for.
Analytics runs only after you say yes. On your first visit a small banner asks; if you decline, nothing loads and no analytics cookie is ever set. If you accept, Google Analytics sets its cookies (named _ga and _ga_*) and the measurement data is processed for us by Google. You can change your mind at any time via the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer — declining there switches analytics off and removes its cookies.
Beyond that, reading The Daily Edit sets no advertising cookies — none. The only other cookie on this site is a functional sign-in cookie used by our editors in the admin console; it is never set for readers. Your consent choice itself is remembered on your own device, and we re-ask about once a year.
Where your data lives, and for how long
Your data is stored with the infrastructure providers who run this site: Supabase (our database) and Vercel (our hosting). If you have said yes to analytics, the measurement data described above is processed by Google on our behalf. Subscriber emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed. Contact messages are kept for as long as we need them to handle your note, then periodically cleared.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter, ask what we hold about you, or request deletion at any time by emailing hello@thedailyedit.net — we handle these requests by hand, promptly.
Third-party links
Our stories link out to other publications and products. Those sites carry their own privacy policies, and what happens there is between you and them.
Children
The Daily Edit is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we update it here and revise the date at the top.
